General Elections in Honduras

Hondurans will cast ballots in general elections on November 24, 2013, electing a new President, 256 Members of Congress (and alternates), 40 Central American Parliamentarians (and alternates), 298 mayors, 298 deputy mayors and 2,092 councilors.

In the presidential race, eight of Honduras' nine registered political parties have put forth a candidate to succeed outgoing President Porfirio Lobo Sosa. Candidates range from the son of a former President to a former first lady, a sports journalist to the current President of Honduras' National Congress.

The presidential candidate of the Libertad y Refundación (Libre) Party is Xiomara Castro.

Currently women represent 20% of the National Congress with 25 women out of 128.
